Such an amazing band, and Mary's a fantastic writer. Thanks for checking it out.

Awesome. Love Sloan. I just got the digital book -- thanks for putting it all together! I thought I’d let you know that you wrote that the link for .99 cents was good until August 2, (not August 25th, which is what it says in Amazon for me). Looking forward to reading the full piece!

This was a great piece in a great first issue. I absolutely love Sloan and the fact that Mary focused on the most recent albums was really appealing. The band is strong in all eras. My favorite is Never Hear the End of It in a game of inches.

Is Vol. 2 on the horizon?

Thanks, man! This kind of music writing—find an interesting perspective and dive in—is my favorite and Mary knocked it outta the park. And I agree that Sloan has been consistently great since the early 90s.

Volume 2 is in the works…aiming for late Sept/early Oct if the stars align.

That is excellent news.

It's funny how people have room in their hearts for only one version of a band- even if it's all the same people in it.

Kinda like they don't center their performance of love around the band or its music-but themselves in a moment in time the band served as soundtrack and "scenery" for.

For sure. All of this stuff is so subjective—you like what you like, for whatever reasons you like it. But Mary for sure LOVES all eras of Sloan, she just happened to come to them later in their career so that is a particular sweet spot for her.

may need to get the full book now. It is interesting though, I guess it depends when you come into a band that sets your faves. I have their full catalogue & have seen them live several times. But "Navy Blues" is my go to album. Not a track I skip. Cheers

Thanks for checking it out! That's kinda what I love about this essay—it has a particular (and interesting) perspective...but, in my opinion, you can't go wrong with any era of Sloan.
