I thought it was great. Gave a very different perspective on one of my all time fav albums.

Wow Candy that takes me back. Replacements and The Three O’Clock excellent!

Right?! Candy was awesome. And I count myself lucky to have seen The Replacements and The Three O’Clock live back then.

I remember buying almost all 7 of these new when they came out during my days at college radio...hard to believe it's been 40 years...my 20 year old self back then could never have believed we'd be celebrating this milestone!!

These are fantastic choices! And even though I think of myself as an alternative music fan, and was in prime record-buying age in 1985, I have to admit that I've never listened to that Dentists album, and had abandoned The Three O'Clock by then. I will need to correct these omissions -- thanks for the motivation.

Here are my Honorable Mentions from 1985:

• Life's Rich Pageant by R.E.M. (if only because it includes "Driver 8")

• Town + Country by The Rave-Ups (I love the cheeky "In My Gremlin", and am still haunted by "Remember" and "Radio"

• Phantasmagoria by The Damned (one of the few Goth-Pop records I've heard.)

• Little Creatures by Talking Heads

• State of Our Union by The Long Ryders

Great choices! Life's Rich Pageant is my all-time fav REM album. And I honestly love Little Creatures. As for the Three O'Clock...I think that's a major benefit of time passing— you get to listen with fresh ears. Enjoy!

As always you come up with at least a couple of bands I’ve not heard of! I and a writer friend are getting ready to publish a book about power pop. Eighty artists featured but there are still so many musicians who have done quality work, the list could go on forever…….

I haven't heard most of these. Guess I have some exploring to do.

Also, I would add Hoodoo Gurus' Mars Needs Guitars! to the list.

I knew of and love all of them except for the two previously unknowns-to-me, Candy and The Dentists. Whoa! How did they not show up on my radar? Great picks! As always...
