I'd suggest "Only Darkness Has The Power" as a better Mekons choice.

I picked up this album years ago and it really got me into old monster rock.

Oh, that's cool! There are a fair few good vintage collections like this, but that one does look especially solid!

This is great, Steve. While not power pop, I've always felt Rickie Lee Jones' "Scary Chinese Movie" from her Ghostyhead album is one creeeeeeepy Hallowe'en type song! Also been thinking of all the "Wolfman Jack" songs from the '70s, and Todd Rundgren's "Wolfman Jack" prolly fits the power pop bill, ya think?

Todd is a good call! Just goes to show you that you can spend decades chasing this stuff and still miss some obvious connections. Thank you!

Countless listens later, I'm still unsure if Ash's "Evil Eye" is demonic or romantic (which seems as ideal a Halloween power pop criterion as any). It's certainly my pick for their most underrated song. The Fleshtones have a ton of spooky songs, but the classic "Hexbreaker!" is still my favorite...

Fun one, Steve and Rex! As a couple of us here have (and for those who just may want to collect generally rock and pop songs about Halloween), I'll follow suit in tapping a miles-away-from-power-pop song from one of my all-time favorite bands, Genesis (at some point, I've got to drill down on my side-by-side love affair with both Genesis (all eras and forms) and power pop! Although, I know the answer (Steve...I bet you can hazard a guess, and be spot on)!

"Home By the Sea," an '80s tune with Phil singing. As he intros in concerts, it's "a song about a haunted house perched high atop a cliff overlooking a foreboding sea" (or, words to that affect). In the song, he speaks of ghosts "shimmying up the walls" BOO!πŸ‘»
