I am so sorry for your loss and the video is truly heartbreaking. Without trying to come across as a publicist at a time when there are far more important things in life, the Canadian band The Sun Harmonic have just released a single called "Homesick". Best of luck with the rebuild. https://open.spotify.com/track/7JL6CeVybaJyIWWzMNf9An?si=8b53d43eb33343ba

Homeward Bound (Simon & Garfunkel). Sending lots of love, Steve! ❤️

*not about being homesick at all, but this popped into my head: In Every Dream Home a Heartache 😉

It's not a pop song exactly, but as a theatre kid from way back, the first thing I thought of for this was "Home" from the Broadway show The Wiz, sung by the incredible Stephanie Mills. I love it, but I have to warn you it frequently makes me tear up when I hear it and I'm not sure why. ( There are two versions on Youtube, one from the original cast album, and another, glossier studio one that she apparently recorded as a single years later. Either one is great.)

I can't even imagine what you are going through but I wish you all the best. Here are some songs with Home in the title:

“Home Tonight” by Aerosmith came to mind. Along with “You Can Live at Home Now” by Husker Du. I think the lyrics for the latter are bitter, but I always found the many repeats of the song title at the end to be strangely cathartic and uplifting. In any case, continuing to wish you all the best in these terrible circumstances.

Hi, Steve; wishing all the best as you rebuild! The song that comes right to mind is “Going Home,” which sweepingly ends its album’s “trip to Hell” — sounded good to me at 14; still has its charms…

Not sure this one fits, but the lyrics of Counting Crows' Long December have really stuck with me the last few months. "I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself to hold on to these moments as they pass."

Just a follow up, the lyrics aren't hitting me for the bad stuff, but rather to really hold onto the good moments and appreciate things as everything can change in an instant. A few more song recs: Feels like Home by Linda Ronstadt, Home by Ingrid Michaelson, and so many by Joni Mitchell

Thanks so much for sharing your family's journey, Steve. You've written beautifully about this story with a bravery that I admire. Been thinking of you often. I hope things keep progressing toward a home again.

I'd suggest that Neil Diamond's 'The Long Way Home' fits the bill pretty well for your playlist.

If you'd like more ides for the playlist, I did whole radio show a while back about the idea of home.

I can't begin to comprehend the experience you are going through with this loss and dislocation. I highly recommend the song "Home" by Lannie Flowers, an artist who I feel certain you have some familiarity with over the years. Touching, moving, it has brought me to tears on many occasions. I hope it may offer you some moments of peace and reflection.

Great piece, Steve. Not ashamed to admit that it really got to me, though I'm sure no where near how you've actually felt.

This might be a weird song suggestion, but I found myself singing "The Boxer", after reading this. Not exactly on point, but something about the emotional resilience I've always felt in the song.

"In the clearing stands the boxer...".

Positive vibes your way - bright future ahead, man!
