"Great column. 'Go All The Way' has to be one of the best examples of power pop, if only because it seems to wind its way through just about every stylistic example explored here. It is practically 3-4 songs wrapped in one ... one of the most unorthodox hit songs ever when you really dissect it. Brilliant."
My Response: Legendary! And totally agree on the weird song structure.
Justin what a coincidence! I was just wearing the purple shirt you sent me and Chris asked if the doc was ever coming out. Same with The Incredible Flamin' Groovies Movie...another one we are waiting for.
I liked the private cut of the film I saw recently and thought The Groovies were portrayed well as an important part of the power pop continuum! (Sorry edited my responses since I'm back in front of a computer and not on my phone.)
I think this is one of the best articles that falls into the 'What is Power Pop?" discussion on the internet.
It covers a lot of ground, both common and more nuanced but it also triggers, at least to this reader, the desire to re-explore how the genre has pulled me in and pulled me up for well over 50 years.
Glad you dug it, Bruce. Justin’s a great writer and he definitely had a lot of incredible source material from all the interviews he’s conducted for the doc (not to mention his own wealth of knowledge). I thought you made some great points in the doc as well!
I should have inserted in my comment that the whole "Go All The Way" book is a classic and deeply enjoyable collection of passion filled essays like Justin's - still, six years on, a must own for even the casual power pop fan.

A must-watch documentary whenever it arrives.
Def worth the wait!
Can't wait!
It’s really great!

Don’t hold yer breath!

About time. I did an interview with Justin for this film 10 bloody years ago! Oh well, better late than never I suppose.
Kind of sad that the Flamin' Groovies are not even mentioned but were interviewed and we got tees.
The Groovies are well-represented in the film. What I saw was a private cut. The film hasn’t been released yet. This essay was written in 2019.
ETA release date?
There isn't a release date yet, as far as I know.
Ha! He’s a one man band with an ambitious project on his hands.

Wow! Thanks so much. That’s incredibly high praise coming from you.
