I hear enough similarities in this chorus melody that All-American Rejects should jump on the phone with their lawyer. Interesting to me is that the part I specifically didn't like were the party atmosphere ad-lib lines, which to me is Taylor Swift's domain. Do not step on Taylor's cape. You can step on Joey Cape, though.
The "Dear You" section was for one reader in particular. Can you guess who? ;)
This song definitely has a "mash up of a lot of stuff that came before it" vibe, which is probably another reason why it's so easy to like. And as for T Swift, we're now seeing a whole generation of pop stars who grew up on her music—I'm expecting a LOT more nods (and the occasional straight lift) in mainstream pop music over the next few years.
I’m a 39 year old indie rock fan who still listens to Big Star and I’m addicted to Red Wine Supernova too, and that whole Chappel Roan album. I have no idea why, it’s the only pop album I’m into now
I like the Chappell Roan song. She reminds me a bit of Eurythmics-era Annie Lennox combined with some Gwen Stefani. It's catchy and very poppy.
Annie Lennox meets Gwen Stefani is a great call.
At least you worked in a nod to Jawbreaker. :P

You leave Joey Cape alone!

It certainly seems to have broad appeal! Are you going to any of the “Radio City” 50th anniversary shows?
