New Power Pop Playlist
A Collection Of Hooky Songs With "Me" In The Title
It’s funny that a “Me” themed playlist was a team effort.
Last weekend I posted an aggregated list of the various playlists I’ve assembled over the last couple of years. At the end of that post, I asked what my next playlist should be and subscriber Bill Davidson delivered:
How about a playlist of songs with the word "me" in the title? Lots of songs are self-referential. A few ideas—"Don't Wait Up for Me Tonight" by The Beat, "Nothing to Me" by Tinted Windows, and "Precious to Me" by Phil Seymour.
Not only is that a great idea, but the three songs he suggested are right in my wheelhouse, giving me a head start. Remember The Lightning might not have the biggest subscriber list on MusicStack, but I’m confident in saying that the readers and commenters who stick around are my people.
I love power pop—and all of the adjacent sub-genres under the greater guitar pop umbrella—but there’s no denying that it’s often a self-centered style of music.
In my opinion, this is a feature and not a bug. What is power pop if not a universe teeming with (mostly) brokenhearted boys-of-all-ages licking their wounds and pining away over their romantic fixations? In that way, “Me” has been a powerful lyrical weapon for many British Invasion-obsessed songwriters over the past 60 years.
I was absolutely spoiled for song choices while putting this playlist together. It got so overwhelming that I briefly considered splitting this one into two installments (I arbitrarily cap these playlists at 40 songs to keep things interesting for…me).
In the end, I decided to let readers flesh the “Power Pop Me” playlist out in the comments. Make sure to include song links with your suggestions.

My Collage Store On Etsy
I’m not going to claim that a lot of people have asked how to purchase my collages outside of LA…but a few people have. For them and anybody else who might be interested, I have opened an Etsy store. Currently only shipping in the U.S. until I get my head around all of this. Greeting card packs featuring select collage images will be posted in the next few weeks. —> Coulter Collage Etc.
